Why U Groove for General-Purpose Spinning

Where a mill runs mixed orders the U groove earns its place: a broad operating window through the medium-to-coarse range, tolerant of both fibre changes and count changes. Because the count band is not published, the selection is checked against your fibre and target count before quoting.

U Groove — Applicable Yarn Count Range

Suited to medium-coarse counts. For fine counts (Ne 30–40), the T groove is the tighter match. Coating grade and count band are confirmed with the quotation for this rotor.

U Groove — The Mixed-Order Profile

Mills running several orders on the same machines need a rotor that does not have to be changed when the count moves. The U profile’s wider zone is exactly that: stable at medium counts, still comfortable when the schedule goes coarser. The wider window is what makes one rotor serve a mixed schedule, at the cost of some fine-count control.

↻

Tolerant of Fibre Change

General-purpose geometry absorbs the variation that comes with running several raw materials on one line.

⊙

One Rotor, Several Orders

Mixed-order mills can keep the same rotor in place as the schedule moves inside the band.

⌂

Straightforward Economics

A flexible rotor that reduces both change-out labour and the number of lines carried as spares.

↗

Wide Count Window (Ne 10–30)

A broad operating band means fewer rotor changes when the count schedule shifts, cutting machine downtime.

Surface Engineering

What D Means: Base and Working Surface

The trailing letters of the model code are two independent codes, not one word: B is the substrate, D is the working surface. Diamond top layer (HV 1000-1200) with a friction coefficient of 0.05–0.1, which reduces fibre damage at the groove face. Ordering rotors, bearings and opening rollers together keeps freight and coating consistent across the spin box.

B — Boronized base
Not in this code · The -BD- models add it
Substrate hardening
Boronized / boron steel Supports the D layer Fibre impact

B = boronized (boron-steel) substrate. A diamond film is only microns thick, so the steel underneath decides whether it survives: a soft substrate deforms under fibre and grit impact and the film cracks and spalls off. The boronized base is the hardening step that keeps the diamond layer intact. This code does not carry the B step; it is the -BD- variant that pairs the diamond layer with the boronized base.

D — Diamond coating
In this code · Working surface
HV 1000-1200
CVD diamond film Friction 0.05–0.1 Anti-stick

D = diamond top layer, grown on the prepared substrate as a micron-scale film. It takes the fibre and grit contact directly, which is where the wear resistance, the friction coefficient of 0.05–0.1 and the anti-stick behaviour come from that hold the groove profile over long runs. Diamond coating technology of US origin, applied on JSM’s own treatment line.

Which Rieter Machines Use S533/U-D?

This rotor runs the T013 bearing, shared by the Rieter R36 and R37 semi-automatic machines. Models in the group differ by groove and rotor size, not by bearing fit.

✓ Rieter R36 and R37 — T013 bearing
Semi-automatic platform. S533/U-D is one of 7 rotor models in the Rieter R36 and R37 T013 group, running to 110,000 rpm with a recommended ceiling of ≤ 105,000 rpm.
✗ Rieter R923 / R35 — C-series rotors
The R923 and R35 machines run the C-series rotor codes (C533/U-D, C536/U-D and others) on the same T013 bearing — not interchangeable with S-series.
✗ Rieter R36 / R37 — 73-1-69 bearing group
S344/S-D and S346/U-D run the 73-1-69 bearing to 80,000 rpm and do not interchange with T013 rotors.
✗ Rieter R1 / R20 / R40 / R60
Fully automatic platforms using R20 Twin Disc, R40-AE / R40-EC or R60-AE1 / R60-EC1 bearings — a different rotor group entirely.

FAQ

S533/U-D — Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most often about this rotor. If yours is not listed, send it with your machine model and current rotor code — we reply within 24 hours.

Is S533/U-D compatible with my Rieter R36 and R37 machine?
S533/U-D uses the T013 bearing and belongs to the Rieter R36 and R37 rotor group of 7 models, running to 110,000 rpm with a recommended ceiling of ≤ 105,000 rpm. The R923 and R35 machines take the C-series rotor codes, so an S-series rotor will not fit them. Send us your machine model and current rotor code and we confirm within 24 hours.
What does the model code S533/U-D mean?
Codes in this range read as series letter, rotor number, groove and coating suffix. S533 identifies the rotor in the R36 and R37 series, U is the groove profile (Ne 10–30), and the trailing D is the diamond top layer (the -BD- variants add a boronized base under it). The series letter also fixes the machine side: C-series rotors belong to the R923 / R35 group, S-series rotors to R36 / R37.
What yarn counts does the U groove suit?
The U profile covers Ne 10–30, medium to coarse counts. Outside that band, ask us — a different groove family is usually the cheaper answer than running this one off its design point.
What do the letters BD mean in the model code S533/U-D?
Read the two letters separately. B describes the base: a boronized or boron-steel substrate — a hardening step, not a coating. D describes the working surface: a diamond film (HV 1000-1200) with a friction coefficient of 0.05–0.1, grown on the prepared substrate. B protects the film, D takes the wear. Which one your code carries tells you whether the substrate hardening is present (BD) or whether the rotor runs the diamond layer alone (D).
How much does an OEM-equivalent rotor save versus the original?
At equivalent dimensional accuracy our price sits 40–60% below the OEM part, and the assembly is dynamically balanced before it leaves the balancing line. Tell us the quantity and your target date and we quote price and freight within 24 hours.
Can I order the rotor spindle or rotor cup separately?
A rotor complete is the cup, the spindle (shaft) and the bearing. If only one part is worn we supply it separately rather than making you replace the whole assembly; send a photo of the worn part and we confirm the replacement.
