Carding Wire / Clothing Strip for OE Spinning

JSM supplies individual carding wire strips (clothing strips) for opening roller / combing roller re-clothing. Replace only the worn wire instead of the complete assembly — cutting maintenance cost while restoring fiber opening performance. Graf wire, DN diamond coating (HV 1000-1200) and chromium plating options.

Carding Wire — the Cost-Saving Way to Re-Cloth

Carding wire (also called clothing strip, or 包齿 / 齿条 in Chinese mills) is the toothed metallic strip wound around the opening roller head. It does the critical job of opening and cleaning fibers before they enter the rotor. Over time the teeth wear, and yarn quality starts to drift — higher CV%, more neps and more end breakages.

Because only the strip wears, you do not need to replace the whole roller. Re-clothing with a new carding wire restores the roller head to like-new performance at a fraction of the cost of a complete assembly.

The same part is known under different names depending on the machine platform: carding wire (Schlafhorst combing roller), opening roller wire (Rieter) and clothing strip on segmented roller heads. Tell us your machine model and we supply the correct configuration.

Why Choose JSM Carding Wire

Stable Fiber Opening

Tooth profile matched to your yarn count and fiber type ensures uniform opening, fewer neps and stable spinning performance.

Lower Maintenance Cost

Re-cloth the roller head with a strip instead of replacing the complete assembly — the most economical way to maintain opening quality.

Extended Service Life

DN diamond coating (HV 1000-1200) and chromium plating reduce wear on abrasive fibers, cutting replacement frequency.

OEM Replacement Compatibility

Direct replacement for original carding wire on Schlafhorst, Rieter, Saurer, Taitan, Jingwei and Rifa OE spinning machines.

How Carding Wire Affects Yarn Quality

Worn or damaged carding wire causes poor fiber opening, higher trash content, increased yarn CV%, more neps and end breakages, and unstable spinning performance. Re-clothing the roller at the correct maintenance interval keeps yarn quality consistent and machine efficiency high.

Practical rule: inspect carding wire every 3–6 months depending on fiber type and rotor speed; combing roller speeds of 7,500–9,000 rpm accelerate wear, so high-speed mills should stock replacement strips in advance.

Tooth Profile Selection Guide

Yarn CountTypical FibersRecommended Wire
Coarse 3–16 NeCotton waste, recycled fiber, coarse blendsDeep, robust teeth for high trash loads
Medium 16–30 NeCotton, cotton/polyester blendsBalanced profile (e.g. B174 / OK40 family)
Fine 30–40 NeFine cotton, viscoseFiner, sharper teeth for gentle opening
Abrasive fibersPolyester, hemp, recycledDN diamond coating (HV 1000-1200) recommended

Frequently Asked Questions

What is carding wire / clothing strip?

Carding wire is the toothed metallic strip wound around the opening roller (combing roller) head for fiber opening and cleaning. When teeth wear out, only the strip needs replacing — a fraction of the cost of a complete assembly.

What is the difference between carding wire and a clothing ring?

Carding wire is a flexible strip wound around the roller head, ideal for serviceable roller designs. A clothing ring is a one-piece solid ring for fully automatic machines with superior concentricity. Both open fibers; the right choice depends on your machine platform.

Which machines are compatible?

Our carding wire covers Schlafhorst Autocoro SE7–SE20, Rieter R1/R20/R40/R60/R70/R923, Saurer BD320/BD416/BD448/BD7, plus Taitan, Jingwei and Rifa OE machines.

Which wire and coating should I choose?

For coarse to medium yarns (3–30 Ne) with high trash loads, use deeper, stronger teeth. For medium to fine yarns (16–40 Ne), finer profiles give smoother opening. DN diamond coating (HV 1000-1200) suits abrasive fibers and high-speed mills; chromium plating is the more economical option.

Can you supply according to samples or drawings?

Yes. We can produce compatible carding wire based on customer samples or technical drawings, with 100% inspection before delivery.

When should the carding wire be replaced?

Replacement depends on fiber type, running speed and wear condition. As a practical rule, inspect clothing every 3–6 months; combing roller speeds of 7,500–9,000 rpm accelerate wear, so high-speed mills should stock replacement strips in advance.

How do I choose the correct model?

Please send your machine model, part number or a photo of the existing part. Our team will help identify the correct replacement within 24 hours.
