Why U Groove for General-Purpose Spinning

U is the flexible profile. Its wider zone covers the Ne 10–30 band, so one rotor keeps working when the count schedule shifts and fewer change-overs are needed. The model is selected on the application, so the bearing fit and the count window are confirmed together.

U Groove — Applicable Yarn Count Range

Covers a wide band around Ne 10–30. Above Ne 30 the narrow T family takes over. Coating grade and count band are confirmed with the quotation for this rotor.

U Groove — Flexibility Across the Schedule

General-purpose geometry is about tolerance. The U groove holds fibre collection steady across mixed fibre lots and a range of medium-to-coarse counts, keeping yarn strength consistent between deliveries and holding rotor swaps down. Mills that run several counts per machine usually standardise on this profile.

≡

Stable Fibre Collection

The wider deposition zone holds collection steady across mixed fibre lots, keeping yarn strength consistent between deliveries.

↓

Lower Change-Out Cost

Fewer rotor swaps per week means less labour on the spin box and a simpler, cheaper spare-parts inventory.

↻

Tolerant of Fibre Change

General-purpose geometry absorbs the variation that comes with running several raw materials on one line.

⊙

One Rotor, Several Orders

Mixed-order mills can keep the same rotor in place as the schedule moves inside the band.

Surface Engineering

What D Means: Base and Working Surface

The trailing letters of the model code are two independent codes, not one word: B is the substrate, D is the working surface. The D in the code is the diamond top layer — the face that takes the fibre and grit contact. On the -BD- models that same layer sits on a boronized base. Ordering rotors, bearings and opening rollers together keeps freight and coating consistent across the spin box.

B — Boronized base

Substrate hardening
Boronized / boron steel Supports the D layer Fibre impact

B = boronized (boron-steel) substrate. A diamond film is only microns thick, so the steel underneath decides whether it survives: a soft substrate deforms under fibre and grit impact and the film cracks and spalls off. The boronized base is the hardening step that keeps the diamond layer intact. This code does not carry the B step; it is the -BD- variant that pairs the diamond layer with the boronized base.

D — Diamond coating

HV 1000-1200
CVD diamond film Friction 0.05–0.1 Anti-stick

D = diamond top layer, grown on the prepared substrate as a micron-scale film. It takes the fibre and grit contact directly, which is where the wear resistance, the friction coefficient of 0.05–0.1 and the anti-stick behaviour come from that hold the groove profile over long runs. Diamond coating technology of US origin, applied on JSM’s own treatment line.

Compatibility

Which Rieter Machines Use S536/U-D?

The T013 bearing fixes this rotor to the Rieter R36 and R37 semi-automatic platform. It is one of 7 rotor models sharing that bearing group.

✓ Rieter R36 and R37 — T013 bearing
Semi-automatic platform. S536/U-D is one of 7 rotor models in the Rieter R36 and R37 T013 group, running to 110,000 rpm with a recommended ceiling of ≤ 105,000 rpm.
✗ Rieter R923 / R35 — C-series rotors
The R923 and R35 machines run the C-series rotor codes (C533/U-D, C536/U-D and others) on the same T013 bearing — not interchangeable with S-series.
✗ Rieter R36 / R37 — 73-1-69 bearing group
S344/S-D and S346/U-D run the 73-1-69 bearing to 80,000 rpm and do not interchange with T013 rotors.
✗ Rieter R1 / R20 / R40 / R60
Fully automatic platforms using R20 Twin Disc, R40-AE / R40-EC or R60-AE1 / R60-EC1 bearings — a different rotor group entirely.

FAQ

S536/U-D — Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most often about this rotor. If yours is not listed, send it with your machine model and current rotor code — we reply within 24 hours.

Is S536/U-D compatible with my Rieter R36 and R37 machine?
S536/U-D uses the T013 bearing and belongs to the Rieter R36 and R37 rotor group of 7 models, running to 110,000 rpm with a recommended ceiling of ≤ 105,000 rpm. The R923 and R35 machines take the C-series rotor codes, so an S-series rotor will not fit them. Send us your machine model and current rotor code and we confirm within 24 hours.
What does the model code S536/U-D mean?
Codes in this range read as series letter, rotor number, groove and coating suffix. S536 identifies the rotor in the R36 and R37 series, U is the groove profile (Ne 10–30), and the trailing D is the diamond top layer (the -BD- variants add a boronized base under it). The series letter also fixes the machine side: C-series rotors belong to the R923 / R35 group, S-series rotors to R36 / R37.
What yarn counts does the U groove suit?
The U profile covers Ne 10–30, medium to coarse counts. Above the band the groove is tighter than the fibre ribbon needs; below it the wider profiles run better.
What do the letters BD mean in the model code S536/U-D?
BD is two codes, not one word. B is the boronized (boron-steel) substrate and D is the diamond top layer, so a -BD- rotor is a hardened base with a diamond working face. The point of the pairing is mechanical: a diamond film is only microns thick, and if the steel underneath is soft, fibre and grit impact dents it and the film cracks off. The boronized base is what keeps the diamond layer intact. A -D- code carries the diamond layer on the standard substrate.
How much does an OEM-equivalent rotor save versus the original?
Because rotors are replaced on a wear schedule, the 40–60% difference against the OEM part compounds over a year of change-outs. Send your annual quantity and we quote on that basis.
Can I order the rotor spindle or rotor cup separately?
If the spindle is sound and only the cup is worn — or the other way round — we quote the individual part. Send the rotor code and a note on which part failed and we advise from there.
